Writing round up 31/01/2025

It's the final day of the longest month in the year and I'm 5% of the way through writing the first draft of my genetic magic novella. As it stands, the novella doesn't yet have a name, I've always found naming my books incredibly difficult and I'm not exactly sure why. At some point, probably when I'm over halfway through writing it, the title will come to me...at least I hope it will! I'm trying to get a few hundred words written each day, which can be a little tricky with work and hobbies, but so far it's working out. Ideally I'd love to have the first draft completed by the end of April, but we'll see how it goes.
In other news, Awakened Magic, my sequel to Forgotten Magic and the second book in the Elementals Series has been written, edited, and proof read. I've ordered some author proofs, which should be arriving sometime next week, and if everything looks okay, I'll be setting a firm publication date. My aim is to have it available to buy in February, and as long as there's nothing majorly wrong in the proof, that should go according to plan.
There will be a third book in the series, but right now I'm taking a little break from those characters to give myself time to work on some of the other projects that have been swirling around my brain for far too long. I'm also not 100% sure yet where Elementals book 3 is going as book 2 ended up in a different direction to my original plan. I'm sure I'll start thinking about it sometime this year though as I love the characters I've created in that series and I want to see them have a satisfying end to their story.
Over the next week I'll be back working on the genetic magic novella and trying hard not to get too distracted by my other projects. I may also spend a little time thinking about Blade of Fire, which is a fairly new idea that's quickly taking form in my mind.
